The church in Tegkwitz is of Romanesque origin, of which the church tower is the oldest part. The first mention of the church is from 1228. The Gothic style nave is from the 15th century. The church is the town's landmark on the elevated site.

The focal point of the village of Tegkwitz is the Marienkirche, which is visible from afar and is situated on a slope with its two pointed towers. As early as 1254 there was a small parish church here. Old fief and inheritance registers, beginning in 1428, state that Tegkwitz was already a parish in its own right at that time, which belonged to the diocese of Naumburg. Some remains of the old Romanesque complex from this period can still be seen today - e.g. B. Window openings on the north side of the church tower.

        History regarding the Luther Trail:

Bartholomäus Kratzsch, the first evangelical pastor who worked there and who got to know Luther's writings early on, converted to the evangelical faith in 1522. He was probably one of the first Lutheran pastors in the principality and performed holy baptism in 1525 according to "Luther's baptismal booklet" at the bridge in Lossen and in 1534 bought Luther's German Bible for the church in Tegkwitz.
