The small Sanctuary exudes spirituality and suggestion; placed on a hill at the entrance to the Valle del Cordevole, it welcomed travelers and pilgrims from all over Europe with the adjacent hospice.
Currently the church is dedicated to San Gottardo, a Benedictine monk particularly venerated in German-speaking countries. In medieval times, these territories, crossed by frequented transit routes, were affected by significant Nordic cultural and artistic influences. Precisely the passage of the important communication route that connected the Venetian plain with the Empire favored the birth of the hospices of the Val Cordevole, and it is understandable that one of them is dedicated to San Gottardo, the founder of hospitable structures.
Inside the building, the oldest work appears to be an image of the Saint painted on wood in the first half of the 15th century, but the most precious is the beautiful altarpiece painted by Frigimelica depicting the Virgin among the Saints Gottardo and Brunone.
