At the foot of the Heimenberg lies the most impressive hornwork of the Grebbe line. The defenses on the Grebbe provided space for more than 1000 infantrymen in the eighteenth century. There, together with 150 artillerymen, ten horsemen and almost 40 cannons, the Grebbedijk had to be closed off during the war. For billeting, one was dependent on the houses in the hamlet De Grebbe. The position was of great importance because of the inundation sluice with which water from the Lower Rhine could be let in.
