Plön Castle was built in the Renaissance style in the 17th century during the Thirty Years' War. It is the landmark of the town of Plön and one of the largest castles in Schleswig-Holstein.Today, the castle is largely used as an educational facility for the Fielmann Academy of Optics. Some areas are open to the public and can be visited free of charge by prior appointment.
