Bike Touring Highlight
The prince island, which became a peninsula in the 19th century due to the artificial lowering of the water level, is about 2 km long and in places only about 30 m wide. Previously, for many centuries, only their peak belonging to the castle area from the Great Plön Lake stood out. It is a peninsula in the extension of the castle garden, on which was formerly an agricultural estate. On this farmstead, the sons of German Emperor Wilhelm II learned the craft of farming or farming.
Often the Empress Auguste-Victoria visited her sons on the Princes' Island. A small pavilion on the tip of the peninsula marks the favorite place of the Empress during her visits there.
The Princes' Island may only be explored on foot or by bicycle. On foot you can reach it via the beach path in about 45 minutes from the city center.
The path leads past the Plöner boat rental, the former boardingboat house, the seven-star at the end of the castle garden, at the most beautiful swimming area on the Great Plöner See and the Lower Saxony farmhouse.
