For many centuries, only its tip, belonging to the castle grounds, protruded from the Great Plön Lake.
It is a peninsula extending from the castle gardens, where a farm was once located. On this farm, the sons of the German Emperor Wilhelm II learned the trade of farming.
Empress Auguste-Victoria often visited her sons on Princes' Island.
