In 2014, Hamburg's Volkspark turned 100 years old! The Jubilar is Hamburg's largest public green space and its design as a public park was groundbreaking for the development of modern, public parks.
A range of different recreational, educational and leisure options offer something to suit every taste. The geometrically designed school garden offers a variety of perennial and ornamental shrub borders, rare trees and special gardens. The dahlia garden on Stadionstrasse is known throughout Europe with over 600 varieties and a total of over 11,000 individual plants. Europe's oldest existing dahlia garden has existed in the Altonaer Volkspark since 1920, and has existed at its current location since 1932. During long walks you can also discover, among other things, a forest nature trail, a hedge theater and several viewing points.
