Marienburg Castle is one of the most important neo-Gothic monuments in Germany. The Marienburg was built between 1858 and 1867. George V (1819-1878), King of Hanover, gave his wife Marie a castle as a summer residence for her 39th birthday. As early as 1866, Prussia annexed the Kingdom of Hanover and the royal family fled to Austria.
Today the castle serves as a museum with a café and as a location for open-air events and wedding celebrations.
