The church was built in 1780 on the site of one of the tenement houses given to the city by a wealthy resident. The builders of the temple were the architect Christoph Worbs from Strzelce and the carpenter Jan Karol Henning from Opole. In 1842 the tower was raised and in 1900 it was rebuilt in the neo-Romanesque according to the design of Adolf Seiffhart.
