The Burgmühle is picturesquely situated below the Neuenburg, directly on the Unstrut in the town of Freyburg. The course of the Unstrut from west to east and the valley location create protected southern slopes that are predestined for wine growing. The city of Freyburg is well-known nowadays for the sparkling wine producer Rotkummel-Mumm, whose sparkling wine brand Rotkummel is well-known to many. In addition, the region is becoming more and more important for tourism.

The castle mill was at its current location more than 500 years ago. Over the years it has been rebuilt in various ways, and since 2014 it has been used again to generate electricity, among other things. burgmühle-freyburg.de/index.php?page=burgmuehle

The Unstrut is a 192 km long, left tributary of the Saale and its most water-rich tributary. The catchment area is almost the entire Thuringian Basin, along with part of the western and northern edge plates, parts of the southern Harz and smaller parts of the northern Thuringian Forest.
