Lukomir is a small mountain village in the center of Bosnia and Herzegovina about 40 kilometers southwest of Sarajevo. With its location at 1455 m, Lukomir is the highest settlement in the country and the only one at over 1300 m altitude.Due to the stećci (tombstones) found in the village and its surroundings, some of which date from the 14th and 15th centuries, historians assume that Lukomir has been inhabited at least since that time.During the Bosnian War the place was hardly affected due to its remoteness, but was attacked with artillery several times from the other side of the Rakitnica Canyon.
