The former Luitpoldheim lung sanatorium was built in 1899 and opened in 1901.
The home had 40 beds for male patients, and in 1905 it was expanded by 20 beds.
The Lower Franconia State Insurance Institute acquired the facility in 1911 for 260,000 marks and sold it to the Dillinger Franciscan sisters in 1969.
The sanatorium then became a family convalescent home called Franziskushöhe in 1974.
In 2001, the well-known film producer Hermann Joha from Lohr acquired the Franziskushöhe and, after extensive renovations, opened a hotel with a restaurant and conference rooms in 2005.
Since February 2020, the new owner of the Franziskushöhe has been the Michel hotel chain.
With its 140 beds in 68 rooms, the hotel is the largest in the Main-Spessart district.
