In its heyday from the 15th to the 18th centuries, the Red Monastery you are looking at was a significant community of Augustinian monks on the edge of the Sonian Forest. The place probably owes its name to the color of the mortar with which the cloister was covered.
Today the monastery is an art center, some rooms can still be visited, as well as the garden with five large ponds. Two are used for fish farming, in the other three Mother Nature is allowed to switch and rule without human intervention.
