The fountain was made by my great-uncle Franz Maurer, who was born in Reichertshofen in Upper Bavaria in 1938 and, like Lothar Fischer, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.

The Count Palatine Johann fountain was created in 1989 and was made of stone. An old postcard depicting the Lower Market from around the middle of the 19th century served as a model. There you could see that there had already been a stone fountain here, which he used as a guide in the creative process. On the central pillar of today's fountain is a bronze figure of the first Count Palatine of our city, Johann I. It commemorates his importance for the city of Neumarkt, who made Neumarkt a residential city by moving his seat of government at the beginning of the 15th century, giving Neumarkt reputation and prosperity helped.
