Calders is a fell in the Howgill range close to The Calf. Many consider this area of England the best place to practice navigation based solely on reading the map contours, as it's notoriously featureless. A great challenge!

Very nice area with beautiful views. In clear weather, the panoramas are fantastic.

Take in the views across the Howgills. The Calf, at 676m (2218ft), is the highest top in the Howgill Fells. A twenty-mile skyline of the Lakeland peaks can be seen from the peak on a clear day. The Howgills were famously described by A.Wainwright - the famous walker and guidebook writer - as a 'herd of sleeping elephants'. An apt description of their steep rounded flanks.
