"The Schwackenreuter lakes emerged from a larger gravel mining area that stretched over the districts of Sauldorf, Mühlingen and Hohenfels. 10 lakes belong to this approximately 100 hectare area. For all three municipalities, these were relatively far away from the town centers Areas, so that in the 70s of the last century the willingness increased to give up such areas for gravel mining.
