In June 1989, during the construction of a water pipe on the southern edge of the building site in the "Steinmäurich" area, the foundations of a 17.6 m long and 7.2 m wide building were uncovered. The find turned out to be a Mithraeum, a sanctuary of the Roman god Mithras, a personification of the sun and whose origins lie in Persian mythology. The building was archaeologically examined, documented and restored in the same year and opened to the public the following year.
