Documents have been mentioning this source as the Lenlach fountain since 1570. A fountain house was later built here, which served to supply the city with water until the 20th century. This spring still feeds the Chinese fountain in front of the town hall today.
In 1910, the beautification association built today's ornamental fountain. According to popular belief, the water from the spring has healing powers for the eyes.
