The tower was designed by the princely Stolberg architect Paul Kilburger, financed by the Wernigerode hotelier Edmund Lührmann and built between May 29 and September 1, 1902 in honor of Kaiser Wilhelm II. The building blocks mainly came from the Königsberg quarry near Schierke. In 1992, the 12 m high tower was completely renovated and made accessible again.
The view from the tower extends over the northern Harz up to the Brocken, the Büchenberg and the Harburg. The view of Wernigerode with Wernigerode Castle is particularly striking.
