Acqua Fraggia Waterfalls

The Acquafraggia waterfalls (or Acqua Fraggia) are located in Borgonuovo and the parts visible from the road are the most suggestive, but not the only ones.The Acquafraggia basin is located at the western entrance to the Val Bregaglia. The stream of the same name originates from Pizzo di Lago at 3,050 meters above sea level, in an Alpine watershed from which rivers descend and flow into the North Sea, the Black Sea and the Mediterranean. Descending towards the valley floor, the stream runs through two suspended valleys, both of glacial origin, one at an altitude of two thousand and the other at a thousand meters above sea level.During its course, the Acquafraggia stream forms a series of waterfalls. These, the ones further down, are the most suggestive thanks to their double jump. In fact, the name Acquafraggia comes from the Latin "aqua fracta", indicating a stream continuously interrupted by waterfalls.
