The route over the Madatschjoch is very demanding and challenges the experienced mountain hiker who is not afraid of heights. Finding the way is difficult with fresh snow. You also walk through loose rubble. Difficult climbing passages are defused with iron bars, ladders and ropes. Still very worthwhile !!

Madatschjoch on September 1st, 2024, we were three women with alpine experience and an average fitness level. We think the Madatschjoch should definitely be marked as a via ferrata. Helmet, gloves and via ferrata set are highly recommended.

On the Verpeilhütte side, there are 3 very steep ladders and a slightly overhanging passage to master. And that's above a very steep and slippery gravel slope. A fall would be fatal.

On the Kaunergrathuette side, the path leads for a long time along wire ropes in very steep terrain. There are many good footholds and steps here.

We were very relieved when we reached the Kaunergrathuette after 4 hours and 15 minutes.

Attention, the old way as indicated here is no longer secured! Descent in the direction of the Kaunergrathütte via a mountain path in the south. The map does not show the new detour
