Hiking
The Speichererkoog Dithmarschen was completely diked in 1979, because during the storm surge in 1962 it turned out that the dikes at that time were not sufficient. In addition, the Speicherkoog can now absorb the water from the inland if it cannot flow into the North Sea during a storm surge.
The Wöhrdener Loch is part of the Speichererkoog. The area is grazed extensively in order to keep the vegetation short and thus to be able to offer sufficient space for ground-breeding birds.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of cars right in front of the dike on the small road, and often not exactly slowly. If it weren't for that, you could quietly watch many birds here, depending on the time of year and time of day.
The Koniks no longer exist here as several starved to death in the fall of 2020 before anyone really noticed. Nobody felt really responsible and that ended the project and there should be no more Koniks.

It is an approximately 490-hectare nature reserve in the northern Speicherkoog Dithmarschen (former tidal and foreland areas that were separated from the sea by dyking).
Unlike the Kronenloch to the south, the intention here is to deliberately create a freshwater biotope with open wet meadows.
The area is actively managed (water levels, grazing/mowing) to preserve diverse habitats for animals and plants.
