The Hanstholm Museum Center is located next to the two large bunkers from World War II. From the museum, there is access to the bunker complex, some of whose original inventory is still intact. Here, you can see crew bunkers, equipment
for ammunition handling, and the large gun bay of one of the 38 cm cannons.

During World War II, the Germans built a strong coastal fortification in and around Hanstholm due to its strategic location at the entrance to the Skagerrak.

As a result, approximately 450 concrete structures were built in Hanstholm. The centerpiece was a battery of four large 38 cm cannons with a range of 55 km. This corresponded to half the distance to Norway. Each cannon was housed in a large gun bay with an attached bunker complex totaling 3000 m². The entire 38 cm battery was manned by 600 men, and each cannon had 90 men attached to it, who lived and worked in the bunker. The 800 kg shells were transported on railway tracks
from the ammunition bunkers to the gun bunkers, where they were lifted to the cannons using sophisticated technology. Additional installations were built around the battery,
their primary purpose being to protect against attacks.

The Hanstholm battery, which was fully operational by autumn 1941, was never used because no enemy appeared. A few test firings were conducted with
the cannons, and the anti-aircraft gun was also regularly used against Allied aircraft flying over Hanstholm, but there were never any direct attacks
    on the fortress.

Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed in the museum building. If there is one gun bunker to visit, it is Gun #4 (the westernmost of the four 38cm gun bunkers). You can also bring dogs in there and it's free of charge. But be careful, only enter with a flashlight!

The Hanstholm fortress on the Skagerrak was built during the German occupation of Denmark 🇩🇰 in World War II and is one of the first fortresses on the Atlantic Wall. The fortress belonged to the Navy and was occupied by Naval Artillery Division 118. The actual fortress has been destroyed today, but the area houses a museum that is built on the bunkers of the 2nd battery, the large battery.

Absolutely recommendable, also for Olsen Gang fans. Many bunkers and great exhibition, also in German

For Bunkerfan's highly recommended. You can explore a lot yourself, as far as you have various lighting equipment.

Impressive museum. The outdoor area can be visited on your own. A flashlight should definitely be there.
A visit to the museum bunker should definitely be planned.

The exterior shots of the bunker scenes from “The Olsen Gang in Jutland” were filmed in the museum.
