  • The alp (1403 m) lies in a meadow area (1280 - 1600 m) at the NW foot of the Söllereck foothills at the mountain station of the Söllereckbahn. With this you can also easily drive into the middle of the alpine region. From here u. a. a beautiful mountain trail into the Walsertal and another hiking trail to the Freibergsee. The alp can also be reached by bike either via Riezlern or via the road from the Söllereck valley station (very steep!).In 1795, Schrattenwang was still mentioned as an alpine pasture of the Söller Alp. It was only in 1887 that Schrattenwang was legally separated from the Sölleralpe, whereby the pastures were divided into 59 Austrian (Walser) and 24 Bavarian pastures. The hiking trail that crosses the alpine region coming from Riezlern was the road to Oberstdorf that the Walsers used to use. From 1423 it belonged to the Walser family down to the Espan, near the valley station of the Söllereckbahn. Even today, the ownership situation along the path is said not to have been clearly clarified, because "outside the Mark" ownership rights are said to be marked on old maps. Around 1945, 22 cows were summering on the 46-hectare private alp.According to Steiner, "Wang" may well have had the meaning of "naturally green terrain" here, the partial moorland certainly did not allow forest to appear everywhere. He also thinks that the first part of the name "Schratt" could come from Schrat = "Kobold".

  • Alpe Schrattenwang is located directly on the hiking trail from the Söllereckbahn to the Kleine Walsertal and is open all year round. In summer graze here
20 dairy cows, from whose milk we make our cheese, butter, quark and yoghurt every day. Even in winter, the hiking trail into the Walsertal is groomed and the ski slope from the Schrattenwang lift runs right past the hut.
