The Weisweiler power plant of RWE AG in the Eschweiler district of Weisweiler serves the base load. It is fired with lignite, which is mined by the RWE Power AG in the mining Inden. Averaged over the years 2012 to 2014, the power plant produced 15.3 TWh of electricity a year, averaged 18.4 million tons of lignite burned. [1] With a CO2 emissions of 18.1 million tons, the power plant generated the fifth highest greenhouse gas emissions of all European power plants in 2015.
