Fábrica da Vila Hydroelectric Plant Ruins

The ruins of the old power plants are in danger of collapsing and are no longer allowed to be entered. Information boards tell about the history of the factories, absolutely worth seeing and impressive, how quickly nature reclaims its territory.

This lost place is worth a visit. It is impressive how pipes, transformers and the like could be moved into such an impassable valley over a hundred years ago. It is a shame that this type of energy generation has not been expanded.

Fábrica da Vila, a hydroelectric power station. A sign with history attached. Operated from 1900-1972. It was the first to be put into operation and has given the town of Vila Franca do Campo the first town in São Miguel to be powered.
