The oldest church in the city of Hjørring is St. Olaf's Church. It was built by Magnus the Good, King of Denmark from 1042 to 1047 and son of King Olaf II. The present Kampsten Church is 100 years younger than King Magnus. In 1966, during a restoration, traces of a wooden building were found beneath the church floor. The church choir and nave are built in the Romanesque style. The porch is late Gothic and has been recently restored. Traces of frescoes have been found on the walls of the choir and nave, but these have all been covered and whitewashed. The baptismal font is new, but the font itself dates from around 1600. The altar dates from the late 16th century with changes made in the early 18th century. From 1910 to 1976, the church had another altar, a painting by Axel Hou. This now hangs on the north wall. The pulpit dates from 1604 and is a Renaissance work by the carpenter and sculptor Niels Ibsen.

St. Olaf's Church is the oldest church in Hjørring. It was built in memory of the Norwegian King Olaf II, Olaf the Holy.

The church was built by Magnus the Good, King of Denmark from 1042-47 and son of King Olaf II. The current "battlestone" church is 100 years younger than King Magnus, but in 1966, during a restoration of a wooden structure, reliable traces were found under the church floor. The choir area and the nave are built in the Romanesque style. The armory is late Gothic and was recently restored. In the church itself, traces of lime paintings have been found on the walls of the choir and nave, but these have all been covered and whitewashed. The baptismal area is new, but the actual baptismal font dates from 1600. The altar is from 1500, with alterations from the early 17th century. From 1910 to 1976, the church had a different altar, a painting by Axel Hou. This now hangs on the north side. The pulpit dates from 1604 and is a Renaissance work by Niels Ibsen, a cabinetmaker and woodcarver.
