The town hall was built in 1587-1589 in the High Renaissance style and was originally much more magnificent than it is today. The building was adorned with high gables, numerous dormers and turrets and rich ornaments. The town hall was destroyed in 1633 and rebuilt more simply in 1667. In 1687 it burned down again and was rebuilt in a different form.
Only the town hall tower, which is about 50 m high, retained its characteristic appearance.
It was renovated in 1991 and received a new gilded tower button.
