A charcoal burner museum, an inn and a stamping point for the Harz hiking nobility await you here. If you have been wondering how the charcoal is made that grills your steak, this is where you will find out. In addition to real charcoal, there is also liquid charcoal in the shop. Does it burn as well as the real one? There is a parking lot on site.

An absolute must for me when I go to the Harz Mountains again.

There is not only delicious food here. It's just a beautiful place to take a break from hiking. Even if you are not hiking here and only driving by, you should stop and linger for a moment.

There are spectacular wood carvings to marvel at!

For the stamp hunters of the Harz hiking pin: Stamp No. 60 can be stamped here. In addition, the stamping point 54 Rotestein is only about 2 km away from here. You can park for free at the Stemberghaus.

    Warm greetings

Even in Corona times we got a hot bratwurst here and could eat it nearby. A great place with many wood carvings that you can marvel at during a hiking rest.
There is a stamp box for the HWN here.

The charcoal burner located on federal highway 81 between Blankenburg and Hasselfelde is one of the few still working craft businesses of this type in Germany.
Anyone who approaches the Harzköhlerei Stemberghaus (500 m above sea level) can already perceive the spicy smoke of the charcoal piles in their nose from a distance.
Next to the charcoal burner there is a rustic, typical Harz gastronomy in the "Köhlerhütte". Food and drinks are well taken care of and instead of “cheers” they say “good brand, good brand, good brand”. Source Harzer Wanderadel

There is food with a resinous touch here.
The restaurant is geared towards mass operations, but it's okay for that.
Hikers are very welcome here, even in small groups.

Nice place for a break. Get there early enough to avoid the big rush. Small disadvantage, is very close to the road with a lot of traffic.
Delicious cakes at fair prices are available here.
