Gabbro, located between the beaches of the Livorno coast, is a hamlet of Rosignano Marittimo in the province of Livorno. This area, located about 200 meters above sea level on the hills between the Via Aurelia and the Via Emilia, is crossed by a road that follows an ancient path from Vada to Portus Pisanus. The history of this area has its roots in ancient times with Etruscan and Roman settlements, watermills, medieval windmills and eighteenth-century villas. The town is known for gabbro, a volcanic rock that takes its name from this location.

Gabbro, not far from the beaches of the Livorno coast; it is part of the Municipality of Rosignano Marittimo, in the province of Livorno. Located halfway up (about 200 m asl) of Poggio Pelato, in the hills between Via Aurelia (SS.1) and Via Emilia (SS.206), it is crossed by a ridge road which somehow follows an ancient path that from Vada Volaterrana (today Vada) led to Portus Pisanus (north of Livorno).
The history of the area dates back two thousand years as the toponymy, the findings of Etruscan and Roman settlements, the presence of watermills and windmills from the Middle Ages, beautiful eighteenth-century villas attest.
But above all, the town owes much of its fame to the massive presence of a rock of volcanic origin, the gabbro, which took its name just from the village.
Both the road sp.8, that connect Gabbro with Livorno or with the SS.206, and the sp.10 that leads to Rosignano Marittimo, are pleasant to ride, because they are asphalted, shaded, with little traffic and full of curves, but the presence of some challenging climb requires an appropriate gear-shifting system.
