The Weißenburg fort, also called Biriciana, was the most important Roman troop location in the Limes section there. It was not until 1890 that proof of a fort near Weißenburg could be provided. From 1890 to 1913, the stone defense with four gates, four corner and eight intermediate towers and part of the inner building were exposed and preserved. At the beginning of the 1960s, the fort was completely conserved according to the findings of the time. With the reconstruction of the north gate and the adjoining wall areas in their original size, the area was enormously upgraded in 1990 as part of the creation of an archaeological park. The north gate with its two characteristic towers that are rounded outwards and the 3.5 m wide passage as well as the walk-in guard rooms, which are connected by a covered corridor, is not the largest of the former four gates of the auxiliary fort, but it is on the most beautiful.

Weißenburg Fort, also called Biriciana, is located on the western edge of the city. It is there on a slight bump above the Swabian Rezat at a distance of about five and a half kilometers south of the Limes.
The successful reconstruction of the gates of the military camp not only illustrates the monumentality of Roman fortifications, but also makes Roman history tangible and tangible for everyone.
