    Hiking

At the upper end of a long ravine lies the Stadtallendorfer Mariengrotte in an idyllic location. This ravine begins on the federal road B 454, above the residential area "Kronäcker" and is part of the "Forster Weg", which leads from the old town to the forest chapel in the Herrenwald.

In the years 1953/54, at the upper end of the ravine, in the area of a former sand pit, the Mariengrotte was built by citizens of the old town thanks to the surviving World War. The foundation stone was laid in October 1953 and on July 11, 1954 the completion was celebrated with a solemn inauguration service.
