The construction of the church began around 1276. Originally, the church had no tower; it was added later.
Patron saint's day Maria Schnee on August 5th. The patronage refers to the consecration date of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, which is also called Santa Maria della Neve. Legend has it that the Mother of God indicated the spot for the church's construction through a snowfall in August.
