If it wasn't for the (often very impatient!) traffic in peak times and on sunny weekends, a nice and challenging road climb kicking up to 16% ..or thrilling descent coming down it into East Dean.

For anyone preferring to reach Friston pond away from the traffic, there is actually a small path parallel to this. Just turn left at the bottom of the climb (Upper Street) and right again after about 100 metres (see komoot.com/highlight/3802315). You will have to push a lot of it but at least you can take your time! :)

Road cycling

This a steep, challenging climb along a very busy road. It's not a particularly enjoyable ascent, mainly because of the traffic, but the top is a relief and brings with it a sense of achievement. There is safe village green area at the top, with a pond, church etc., at the end of Old Willingdon/Jevington Road, which is quite scenic.
