The medieval castle Oberkapfenberg stands on the castle hill of Kapfenberg.

From up here you have a wonderful view of Kapfenberg and the rest of the area.

There is also a restaurant in the castle.

It leads up an asphalt road (BE CAREFUL, STEEP (not for beginners !!)).

The Loreto Chapel is only a few minutes' walk away (beautifully decorated with an equally beautiful view😉).

Up here you can really relax and recharge your batteries👍.

About history:

The castle was mentioned for the first time in 1173 (under the name "Chaffenberch")

1268 Construction at the current location by the Lords of Stubenberg

1550 expansion into a renaissance fortress

In 1740, when it moved to the newly built Wieden Castle, it fell into ruin

1955 Reconstruction of the castle by the Stubenberg family

1992 purchase by the municipality of Kapfenberg

Prices:

Adults cost 8 euros

Pensioners, schoolchildren, apprentices, students, military and civil servants cost 7 euros

Children from 5 to 15 years of age 5 euros each (infants have free entry)

a family with one adult costs 13 euros

a family with two adults costs 21 euros

Oberkapfenberg Castle is a partner of the Steiermark Card (this means that card holders have free entry)
