Driving this sandy road there is great. You make a short detour to Lake Tegel. The Humboldt Island and the former harbor basin there is also very easy to navigate. If you want to go to the Tegel pedestrian zone, this path is much nicer than the one on the street.

On the history of the Humboldtmühle.
The Cologne citizen Johann Wolf sold a mill to the Spandau monastery in 1361. That was the first documented mention of the Tegeler Mühle, which is now the last remaining industrial part of the former Tegeler Hafen industrial port. After the Spandau monastery was dissolved during the Reformation, ownership of the mill fell to Elector Joachim II. It was attached to the Tegel estate and expanded to include a cutting mill in 1580. In 1693 the estate and mill were separated and, after several changes of ownership, they were acquired again by the landlord Alexander Georg von Humboldt in 1776. At the beginning of the 19th century the mill was one of the largest windmills in the region. In 1834 the buildings were completely destroyed by fire. Afterwards, several mills were built on the Tegeler Fließ. As a result, the mill initially lost its monopoly position. In 1848, however, the installation of a steam engine and the construction of a towpath meant that it became impossible for the other mills to keep up with the efficiency of the Tegel mill. Called the Humboldt Mill since 1887, it was gradually expanded into a large industrial mill. Humboldtmühlen AG was founded in 1893. In 1937 the granary burned down and was replaced by a new building in 1939–1940. It was not until 1988 that the mill operation was discontinued as unprofitable. The history of the old Tegel village mill stretches over 500 years. The long tradition of operations at this location is illustrated by the parts of the building from the 19th and 20th centuries, which were integrated into the renovations between 1989 and 1992. The old grain silo is now used by the Medical Park Berlin Humboldtmühle. Other old mill buildings have been converted into office buildings.
