Opened in 1910 as a fish market auction hall. After moving the fish market, the hall was empty for a long time, and should be demolished, but this did not happen, and so moved in 1978, the Maritime Museum.

The Kiel City and Maritime Museum presents its holdings in two historic exhibition buildings: the Warleberger Hof and the historic Fischhalle, directly on the Kiel Fjord.
The Maritime Museum in the impressive former fish hall on the Seegarten is the maritime highlight of the state capital.
After an extensive refurbishment of the historic building, Kiel's maritime history has returned to the Fischhalle. Ship models, marine painting, nautical equipment - the museum exhibits show that Kiel's history is inseparable from shipping. The permanent exhibition provides insights into the development of the city as a shipyard and marine location, as a port city and as a city of yachting. Themes such as the history of fishing, the Kiel Canal or the marine painting are also staged in modern presentations with numerous media stations. The museum shop and the associated restaurants enhance the exhibition experience. Large panoramic windows overlooking the water let the view across the fjord to ferries and yards and connect the museum with the maritime present and future of our city.
