The church with its two towers and the convent building belong to a former Benedictine abbey that was founded in the 12th century.
In 2007 the buildings and land of the former monastery were bought by the Friends of the Flechtdorf Monastery e. V. acquired in order to maintain and use the facility.

The monastery with its two towers characterizes the townscape of Flechtdorf. It dates from the 12th century and is a former Benedictine abbey from the Romantic era. The monastery complex is one of the 43 Sauerland soul places.
From April to October, monastery tours are offered every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month.
