When Meisenheim was granted city rights in 1315, it also had market rights. In addition to a fortnightly market in spring and autumn, the city was allowed to hold a number of other markets in addition to cattle markets. Since the sale of goods in the houses and on the way to the market was prohibited, all items for sale had to be brought to the marketplace. The covered market hall was used for the stacking of valuable goods and probably dates from the years 1550 to 1560. The city is said to have built the building. Source: Meisenheim.de
