Bidwell/Forest Road 22 is the only potential bailout option roughly in the middle of the 30-mile waterless stretch of the PCT along the edge of the Hat Creek rim. It drops here precipitously from the rim to the valley floor and makes its way across the rugged volcanic landscape to Hwy 89. That also makes it accessible for trail angels who often maintain a water cache here, at a black water tank, during the peak season.
