The Cape de Creus Natural Park, the first maritime-terrestrial park in the country, was created thanks to a law of 1998 that protected the Cape de Creus peninsula and its marine environment.
The total area of the park is 13,886 hectares, of which 10,813 is land and 3,073 is sea. In the country, three natural areas of national interest have been created, in the north that called Cabeza Gorda-Cape de Creus; in the south Punta Falconera-Norfeu and in the west the Sierra de Rodes. Likewise, all islands and rocky islets in the protected part of the sea belong to the nature park.
