Jack Block Park opened in 1998 as part of the Port of Seattle's redevelopment of Terminal 5. The 15-acre park was previously occupied by a wood treatment plant and a shipbuilding facility. It was designated a Superfund site in 1994 after being contaminated with creosote.

The park's beach reopened to the public in 2011 after an environmental cleanup project that included the removal of polluted mud and wood pilings, as well as the capping of 58 acres (23 ha) of silt.
A walking path along the shoreline runs through the park, passing via a play area and a walkable pier before ending at the park's observation tower.

Well worth a stop to look across Elliott Bay to downtown Seattle. The ADA-compliant path up to the viewing platform is a great technical ride for a bike (take it slow, but it's fun!)
