The Great Sieberstein pond lies in the Lower Harz in the valley of the Siebersteinbach and was created in 1793 as a fish pond. In addition to this original purpose, the pond was used in the 20th century for several decades for drinking water. The dam of the pond is about 80 meters long and 15 meters high and dams behind the water of the Siebersteinbach to a 400 meters long and up to 80 meters wide waters. The surface of the Great Sieberstein Pond is approximately 4.2 hectares in the event of a full-scale congestion. In this case, there are around 180,000 m³ of water in the pond. Because of this size, the Great Sieberstein Pond is already considered a dam.

Its task as a fishpond still meets the Great Sieberstein Pond today. For fishing but as usual, a permit is required here. You can reach the pond via the federal highway 185, which connects Mägdesprung with Ballenstedt, but can not drive directly to the pond. The Great Sieberstein Pond is also a nice hiking destination. The Sternhaus and Ballenstedt are only a few kilometers away. Just under two kilometers below the pond is the small Sieberstein pond, which also docks the Sieberstein stream.

The Große Siebersteinteich (also: Großer Siebersteinsteich) is a reservoir near Ballenstedt in the Harz Mountains in Saxony-Anhalt. The Sieberstein (s) creek is dammed in it; the receiving waters are the Bode and the Saale.

Because of its size, the pond, which was created in 1793 for the water supply, is considered a dam. The dam is an earth dam with an inner seal. About 1.6 km to the northeast is the small Sieberstein pond.
