      Altitude about 500!
      Easy mountain bike tour
no special driving technique required light trails
driven with Eco Rest battery 40%
This tour is suitable for beginners and people who want to take it easy. There are longer climbs only at the beginning of the tour. There are many places to stop for refreshments in the season. You also have the opportunity to visit a former machine factory or the Falkenstein Castle.Tour Description
      From Osterteich Gernrode to Mägdesprung
The tour starts at the Osterteich car park, from here it goes past the Osterteich to the Heiligenteich. The path runs constantly with a moderate incline to the parking lot at the HSB stop Sternhaus Haferfeld. Here it goes over a beautiful trail to the Sternhaus, which is unfortunately currently closed. The country road at the Sternhaus is carefully crossed because the transition lies directly in a curve. After a bit of a forest path, a trail leads past the Erichsburg ruins down to Mägdesprung. Inexperienced people should drive carefully here. The road is crossed again before the trail continues to the Carlswerk. The Carlswerk is a former machine factory which is a listed building, inside is a museum that can be visited.
      Through the Selketal
From here it goes down a small road down the Selketal. In the Selketal there were four hammer mills for iron production in the 18th century. This is still indicated by the place names today. On the 3rd Hammer a refreshment stop is currently being made in a historic building. Just a short distance further on the 4th hammer is the Selketaler Waldgasthof, a vegetarian restaurant with a great atmosphere and a large garden. The road ends at the Selkemühle and it goes on a gravel path through the lovely Selketal. At the exit of the Selketal there is the possibility to make a short but steep detour to Falkenstein Castle. A higher level of support is also welcome here. Since it is a relatively short tour overall, you should simply treat yourself to it. 🙂
About Meisdorf back to the starting point Gernrode
The route continues directly to Meisdorf at the Selke. We reach the mausoleum shortly before the site. The tour follows from here on the bike path to Ballenstedt. We recommend a stop in the castle restaurant, from the terrace you have a great view of the Harz foothills. If you want, you can also explore the very beautiful castle park. The Fürstenweg takes you back to the starting point of the tour.
