Frankenberg Castle probably emerged from Vorderfrankenberg Castle, which was built in 1254 by the Burgrave of Nuremberg. At the beginning of the 18th century. The castle was converted into a baroque style palace.

Frankenberg Castle is located on a hilltop in the middle of the Steigerwälder vineyards. There are interesting sculptures in the castle garden and delicious cakes are available in the modern café. Just a few meters from Frankenberg Castle are the Hinterfrankenberg ruins, which are also well worth seeing.

Frankenberg Castle: Numerous finds from the immediate vicinity point to an early Celtic settlement. The Hinterfrankenberg ruin is the older of the two castles. In 1254 the burgrave from Nuremberg built Frankenberg Castle nearby, which passed to the Lords of Seckendorff in 1390.
