Until the 1920s, the mouth of the Kahl was located where the border between Hesse and Bavaria still runs today. On the banks of the Main, the "Deepest point of Bavaria" is marked here. In the course of the lignite mining in the pit "Emma" the Kahlmündung had been relocated, so that today this Spessartfluss flows around the meanwhile to a lake, the Hornsee, former open pit in a wide arc and approximately three hundred meters further south - and thus completely in Bavaria - flows into the Main.
