The tower dates from 1418 and is built of marlstone. This was part of a Romanesque church that was demolished in 1887-1888 and replaced by today's neo-Romanesque brick church. In addition, the tower was increased by two (marl) parts and the spire with the surrounding gables was created.

Initially, a single-aisled church building with a semi-circular apse was created under the architecture of Johannes Kayser. Arched friezes and frames in differently colored brick were lavishly applied. In 1936, the building was expanded with side aisles and one bay, creating a basilical church building. J.E. Schoenmaekers was the architect here.
On September 29, 1944, during the Liberation, the church was damaged by shells. The damage could be repaired relatively easily.
Restoration also took place in 1985-1986.
