This bat station is on the hiking trail between Schönberg and Schönberger Strand (museum railway) and is equipped with picture and information boards.
An entertaining and interesting hiking trail, especially for children.

The bat life over the course of the year 🦇:
From May onwards, the pregnant female bats go to their nursery quarters to give birth to their offspring there together in the first weeks of June. The offspring is initially naked and blind. After about five days, the young bats have thin fur and their eyes have opened.

From the beginning to the middle of July, the first young animals start trying to fly, but are still being suckled by their mothers.

The "swarming season" for bats begins in August and September. The animals show their young animals possible winter quarters by circling in front of the respective hiding place.

Flights into living quarters can often be observed when there is a sudden change in the weather, but also during the "swarming season" in late summer and autumn. These are mostly pygmy bats or mosquito bats. In frost-free weather you should let such a bat fly out again through the open window. If it sits still, you can put the bat outside with a glove on a sheltered, cat-safe, hanging place at least two meters high. In case of frosty weather please contact us.

In autumn and winter, sleeping animals are often found when stacking firewood. If you find such a sleeper, gently pick it up with the glove and carefully push the animal into another woodpile, there it will continue hibernating 😉.
