In the hinterland of the Usedom Imperial Spas

The Gothensee on the island of Usedom is more than half a square kilometre in size and is almost as large as the Schmollensee. The Gothensee stretches from the village of Bansin in the north to Korswandt and Ulrichshorst in the east and south. In 1818 the lake was connected to the Baltic Sea by the dead-end canal that runs through Bansin. This made it possible to regulate the water level in the Thurbruch moorland on the island of Usedom.
The shore of the Gothensee can only be reached in a few places. The shore of the Gothensee can be seen mainly in the west of Neuhof - a district of the Usedom Imperial Spa Heringsdorf - and from Bansin village. Many holiday apartments and holiday homes have been built in this very scenic location. A small settlement east of the village of Gothen also provides access to the Gothensee.
