Dermbach had a station on the Feldabahn (Dorndorf-Kaltennordheim). The line was closed in 2003 and the tracks were dismantled in 2008. The Feldabahn, whose route forms the basis for today's cycle path, had a predecessor that was built in 1878-1880. The first meter-gauge railway in Germany was built in the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar and was only replaced in 1934 by the standard-gauge line of the "later Feldabahn". The standard-gauge Feldabahn from Dorndorf to Kaltennordheim was in operation until 1997. After that, only special trips took place.
