In the autumn of 1977, the city forester's office cleaned and restored the Gänshülbe on the Schnaitheimer Moldenberg as part of its landscape maintenance work. A stone cross that had been sunk by then was brought to light. At that time nothing was known about the origin of the partially damaged cross. And so the simple memorial cross, it is not an atonement cross, on the Schnaitheimer Gänshülbe could not be assigned to any historical event for a long time.
In 2002 the cross was examined more closely and restored. Numbers and letters became visible: ICB and the year 1825! Research showed that on April 11, 1825, a Johann Georg Bauder, child of 11 years, had an accident while on duty by falling off his horse. What kind of accident cost the boy his life and what "service" he performed can no longer be reconstructed. (Brommler 03/2008)
